About
I’m a lawyer who helps businesses do good things. Based in Dunedin, I’m particularly active in the technology and game development sectors, and am regarded as one of the leading lawyers for indie game developers in New Zealand. If you’re starting or growing a business (especially in the gaming space), let’s talk.
I love working with startups from an early stage, as they grow and innovate. I also help investors and established companies with their corporate and commercial needs. I have experience across a broad range of industries including energy, retail, health, education and charities.
Clear and concise writing isn’t always associated with the legal industry, but this is something I’m really passionate about. I regularly write articles and give talks to demystify legal concepts, ensuring they are easy to understand.
I enjoy working with clients in a clear, practical manner, focusing on understanding their key issues. I have a particular knack for drafting contracts, and can distil complex requirements down to just the necessary components.
I am also chair of Startup Dunedin, a non-profit trust that helps facilitate Dunedin's growing startup ecosystem. I’m a passionate supporter of the startup scene and a firm believer in the value of entrepreneurship, having completed secondments at Viclink (now UniServices) and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
I was honoured to be named as a Rising Star for 2022 by NZ Lawyer and have presented nationally on legal topics at the New Zealand Game Developers Conference.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing board games or video games but mostly I spend any free time with my young family.

We know our strengths, and we celebrate them. Equally, we recognise the value that specialised partners bring to the table in areas like employment, property, tax, competition, IP registration and litigation. A Partnership That Extends Beyond Avid.legal
Our commitment to your success involves taking the "right horse for the right course" approach, unrestricted by the four walls of a traditional full-service law firm. We have longstanding relationships with several specialist law firms that we partner with across a range of clients and matters. We advocate for these partners because we believe they can offer the best service to meet your specific needs. We find this to be of enormous benefit to our clients.
